This Saturday in Huatulco, Mexico, Amélie Kretz won the junior women’s North American triathlon championships race. Read her race re-cap at her blog here (français seulment).
Kretz exited the swim on with the lead pack, and managed to take the lead out of the transition. The bike portion was uneventful as a pack of two Mexican athletes and two fellow Canadians joined Amélie in grinding out the hilly course. She held her lead through the bike to run transition and with 3k to go, it was down to Kretz and Barraza, the top Mexican. Kretz put in a surge on the hill and Barraza could not respond, and the young Quebecoise surged to a 32 second victory.
