This weekend we went to New York, and I witnessed some very cool things, running-wise. First, on Saturday, an event called Summer Streets, which essentially closed Park Ave from about 30th (I think) to 72nd, so that people could walk, run or bike up and down the street.
In watching the Olympics these past few days, I’ve come to reflect on the debate surrounding which events should be included or not, and indeed, which events are even sports.
We had a nice bit of racing in our club this past weekend. Amélie Kretz continued her absolute dominance over any other competitors (her closest rival was Gabrielle Edwards of Saskatchewan 41 seconds behind) in the National Junior Tri Series.
There are a couple good links out there right now, discussing two sides of what one might call “professional” track and field.
