Classic Kiteley-McInnes 2015 CIS XC Poll at Montreal Endurance brought to you by New Balance IS BACK

Feelin’ the Change of the Guard

The best CIS XC poll is back again for 2015 and New Balance is back as our sponsor, providing shoes to the best public voter (more on that below). We have some exciting news to share with all you CIS XC superfans!

2015 has the potential for some big changes on the CIS XC scene. At the most basic level, we welcome two new teams: UPEI will field a squad in the AUS and Laurentian’s men’s team is back in the OUA. UPEI’s team will be made up of mostly triathletes on the men’s side, with Martin Sobey leading the way. The UPEI women are a clean slate. For the Voyageurs, according to coach Dick Moss, it might take a couple years to get up to speed, but they do have a nice women’s tradition that the men can learn from.

At the top end, could this be the year Guelph is de-throned? It seems like we say this every year, however the vaunted UofT women’s team is healthy and ready to go, at least for now. On the men’s side, bringing back Hendrixk and Woodfine is going to make the Gryphons tough to beat, especially when the challenging Laval squad has lost their top man, Charles Philibert-Thiboutot.

Speaking of Chuck…the Rouge et Or’s loss is our gain as we are very excited to announce that CPT will be taking over as the main writer of our men’s poll. Oh yes. My understanding is that he will write in english, but better brush-up on your quebecois expressions just in case!

Rachel François, now graduated from the Victoria Vikes, will write our women’s poll. Rachel is well-versed in the annual “will UVic’s 800m runners be able to handle 6k xc?” debate. I’m sure she has some ideas about that one.

So, soon the temperatures will drop, the sound of crisp, fallen leaves will crackle underfoot, and the Stafford-Staelhi debate will be renewed. Here’s hoping we are treated to Boyd v. Ristuccia on the message boards as there is nothing as entertaining as a coach fight!

Our panel this year has international flavour. Here’s our list:

Adam Stacey (NB/UK)
Brittany Therrien (NS)
John Lofranco (QC)
Charles Philibert-Thiboutot (QC) *writer men’s poll
Chris Moulton (ON)
Becky Pieterson (ON)
Steve Gersten (SK)
Rachel François (BC) *writer women’s poll

We are partnering again with Trackie.ca to allow you to have your say and vote in the poll as well. We will include the aggregate of your votes as the “public vote” and the public voter who votes closest to the actual 2015 CIS championship results will win a pair of New Balance shoes. There may be more prizes as well, so stay tuned. You need to have a registered account on Trackie and a real name in your profile to win. Sorry, no anonymous cowards allowed!

Here is the schedule for the polls:
Pre-season poll: week of September 7
Mid-season poll: week of October 5
Pre-conference poll: week of October 26
Pre-CIS poll: week of November 9

We hope to have the poll results published by Friday of the week mentioned. We look forward to your comments telling us how wrong we are, and how much we’ve over-rated your rival and under-rated you!
