Quebec Provincials 2012 5000m and Canadian Record attempt

It’s been a while since we’ve had a nice race video. Here we have a couple great 5000m races. In the women’s race, a strong field of university runners from both the CIS and NCAA were assembled: Caroline Pfister, Jessica Porfilio and Madeline Cummings from McGill, Arianne Raby from Indiana, Melanie Hughes from Tulsa. Local clubs were also represented by Sabrina St. Gelais (St. Laurent) and Ankia Rozon (Sherbrooke). And of course, Melanie Myrand from our own club, Montreal Endurance. A solid pack formed, and a competitive race resulted.

On the men’s side, in a rematch from the 10000m in Quebec City, Ryan Noel-Hodge, Emmanuel Boisvert and Stephane Colle toed the line, with the help of Jean-Daniel Labranche as a rabbit to keep the pace honest. In addition, Guillaume Ouellet, the Montreal Endurance runner who just missed qualifying for the London Paralympics, decided to make up for missing out on the Games by taking down a Canadian record. So he was after P. Page’s record of 16:10, set at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
